Are Pats better at gaming system than Broncos?

- Readers talk and columnist Mark Kiszla responds Mark Kiszla: mkiszla@ denverpost. com or @ markkiszla

Corona- gate? Well, well, well. The Patriots win again. Another Sunday without the Broncos. Why should Denver be penalized for the incompetence of the Patriots and their inability to manage their team’s health two weeks in a row? It sounds fishy to me. Delaying the game buys New England some time so quarterback Cam Newton can start Monday.

Shawn, conspiracy theorist Kiz: While sports do build character, the games we play do an even better job of revealing our character. When something seems fishy, we demand to see the replay in ultraslow motion, because our real national pastime isn’t football or baseball, but the filing of our grievances. We like to gripe. If I catch the gist of your grievance, shame on Newton for testing positive in New England, because COVID is somebody else’s problem, until it comes knocking on our door in Colorado. In the tally of Super Bowl rings, New England has Denver beat 6- 3. It’s not because those dastardly Patriots are better at gaming the NFL system. It’s because New England has been better at football.

Talking about practice? The Patriots don’t need a week of practice to beat these Broncos.

Kiz: The “D” in Denver stands for desperate. Denver should bring playoff intensity to the field, because if the Broncos lose and drop to 1- 4, their season is over. The real question: Is Denver so desperate for a

“W” it would send quarterback Drew Lock back in action before his shoulder is ready to withstand the violence of a collapsing pocket?

Trade targets. You say the Nuggets should trade for New Orleans guard Jrue Holiday? I say get Brandon Ingram and JJ Redick from the Pelicans.

Kiz: Why not also ask for Zion Williamson and take all the Duke alums off New Orleans’ hands? Sorry. Ain’t happening, my friend. I’m afraid Gary Harris and Will Barton have less trade value than you or the Nuggets would like to believe.

Bri- ditch. It should seem obvious to Dick and Charlie Monfort to ditch the Jeff Bridich experiment. The Rockies general manager has wasted so much of the franchise owners’ money it boggles the mind. It’s time to raid the Tampa Bay Rays front- office staff and bring small- market winning ways to this dusty old cowtown.

Kiz: So what you’re trying to say is the Rockies need a Ray of hope?

Going viral. With COVID- 19 already resurgent across the northern hemisphere, my guess is the NFL won’t be able to complete the season and will have to cancel the playoffs.

Kiz: While the NFL makes players and coaches wear masks, the league acted as if its schedule was immune to the virus. Why there weren’t multiple bye weeks programmed into this most unusual 2020 season would be inexplicable, if we didn’t know big money takes priority over good medicine in the NFL, whether the health issure is concussions or COVID.

Kickin’ it with Karen? And today’s parting shot must surely be intended for somebody else, as nobody named Karen has ever worked at Kickin’ It Headquarters.

Put your mask on, Karen. And go hide under a rock.
