In 2017 we reduced the federal corporate tax rate creating the best economy the U. S. has ever seen, to the great benefit of working people across the nation. Amendment B provides Colorado businesses some tax relief at a time when we really need it.

Our current property tax rate structure is based on the 40- year- old Gallagher Amendment, which places an excessive burden on small businesses, hurting employment opportunities for us. Voting yes on Amendment B will help our small businesses survive this recession and beyond.

Colorado businesses pay a property tax rate that is an absurd four times higher than residential property. Without Amendment B that imbalance will get much worse. The Taxpayer’s Bill of Rights ( TABOR) is the most important tax restriction measure we have, so that “We the People” always have control over any tax increases, and that protection will remain firmly in place when we pass Amendment B.

As a former member of the Fort Collins Electric Board, balancing the various electric rates was critical to a healthy economy, electric supply and renewable energy. Later, as a member of the Larimer County Board of Health, I saw how property taxes funded our public health infrastructure that is so important to us now during COVID.

Amendment B will ensure appropriate funding for these important services, particularly in areas that have not seen the explosive growth in residential property values like Denver and Boulder. Please join me in voting Yes on Amendment B.
