MEXICO CITY» Mexican President Andrés Manuel López Obrador said Sunday he has tested positive for COVID-19 and that the symptoms are mild.

Mexico’s president, who has been criticized for his handling of his country’s pandemic, said on his official Twitter account that he is under medical treatment.

“I regret to inform you that I am infected with COVID-19,” López Obrador, 67, tweeted. “The symptoms are mild but I am already under medical treatment. As always, I am optimistic. We will all move forward.”

5 killed in Indianpoli­s shooting.

Five people were found shot to death in a home in Indianapol­is on Sunday morning, a crime that the city’s mayor denounced as an evil act of “mass murder” that amplified a recent spate of gun violence there.

One of the victims was a pregnant woman, according to officials, who said that efforts to save the fetus were unsuccessf­ul.

Officials said that more than one person might have carried out the shooting, and that the victims were targeted.

Israel halting most flights. JERUSALEM»

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Sunday said Israel will be closing its internatio­nal airport to nearly all flights, while Israeli police clashed with ultra-Orthodox protesters in several major cities.

The entry of highly contagious variants of the virus, coupled with poor enforcemen­t of safety rules in ultra-Orthodox communitie­s, has contribute­d to one of the world’s highest rates of infections. It also has threatened to undercut Israel’s highly successful campaign to vaccinate its population against the virus.

Biden to reinstate COVID-19 travel restrictio­ns.

WASHINGTON» President Joe Biden on Monday will formally reinstate COVID-19 travel restrictio­ns on non-U.S. travelers from Brazil, Ireland, the United Kingdom and 26 other European countries that allow travel across open borders, according to two White House officials.

The officials, who spoke on the condition of anonymity to discuss the order, also confirmed Sunday that South Africa would be added to the restricted list because of concerns about a virus variant that has spread beyond that nation.

Indonesia says it seized Iranian, Panamanian tankers.

JAKARTA, INDONESIA» Indonesian authoritie­s said that they seized an Iranian tanker and Panamanian tanker suspected of carrying out the illegal transfer of oil in their country’s waters Sunday.

The tankers — the Iranian-flagged MT Horse and the Panamanian­flagged MT Frea — were seized in waters off Indonesia’s West Kalimantan province, said Wisnu Pramadita, a spokesman for the Indonesian Maritime Security Agency.

Center-right incumbent wins Portugal’s presidenti­al election.

LISBON, PORTUGAL» Portugal’s president was returned to office for a second term Sunday, in an election held amid a devastatin­g COVID-19 surge that has made the European country the worst in the world for rates of cases and deaths.

Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa captured 61.5% of the vote, with 98.5% of districts reporting. He had been widely expected to win.
