Fire breaks out near Cherry Creek State Park.
A brush fire burning in a wetlands area at Cherry Creek State Park forced evacuations in the area.
Evacuations were in effect early Sunday night for residents in the immediate area west of Parker Road and people inside Cherry Creek State Park.
South Metro firefighters were on scene of the Cherry Creek blaze and were working to gain control of the fire before the flame lengths grow larger with continued wind gusts. No structures were threatened as of early Sunday evening.
Firefighters said the wind was fueling the northwest side of the fire, making suppression difficult and dangerous with embers getting into trees and causing branches to fall.
