Mets invite tebow to spring training

NEW YORK» Tim Tebow has been invited to big league spring training by the New York Mets, taking one of 75 spots after Major League Baseball limited spring roster sizes as a coronaviru­s precaution.

The former Broncos quarterbac­k returned to baseball in 2016 for the first time since high school and played 77 games at Triple-A in 2019 before the pandemic wiped out the 2020 minor league season.

A lefty-hitting outfielder, the 33year-old hit .163 with four homers and 19 RBIs two years ago with Syracuse.

No.1 North Dakota knocks off DU.

The top-ranked North Dakota Fighting Hawks dropped the University of Denver hockey team for the second time in as many nights Saturday, pulling away late for a 5-2 victory in Grand Forks, N.D.

DU freshman Carter Savoie scored for the 11th time this season, but it wasn’t nearly enough as the Fighting Hawks (15-4-1) scored moments after a five-minute Pioneers (7-12-1) penalty kill in the third period to take a two-goal lead and never look back.

Justin Turner is returning to the Los Angeles Dodgers, announcing via Twitter that he’s ready to “run it back” with the World Series champions. The 36-year-old third baseman batted .307 with four homers, 23 RBIs and an .860 OPS during the 2020 season.

Flaherty, Soroka win in salary arbitratio­n, Yarbrough loses.

YORK» St. Louis pitcher Jack Flaherty and Atlanta pitcher Mike Soroka won their salary arbitratio­n cases on Saturday, and Tampa Bay reliever Ryan Yarbrough lost.

Flaherty was awarded a raise from from $604,500 to $3.9 million after the Cardinals had submitted $3 million. Soroka was given a raise from $583,500 to $2.8 million by arbitrator­s, while Yarbrough received a raise from $578,500 to $2.3 million.

NEW YORK» Left-hander James Paxton is returning to the Seattle Mariners after an injury filled second season with the New York Yankees. The 32-year-old left-hander and the Mariners agreed Saturday to an $8.5 million, one-year contract, a person with knowledge of the negotiatio­ns told The Associated Press.

Matt Harvey agreed Saturday to a minor league contract with the Baltimore Orioles that would pay him $1 million if added to the 40-man roster. The 31-year-old right-hander was an All-Star with the New York Mets in 2013, but has been derailed by injuries and inconsiste­ncy since.
