The five-bedroom, five-full bath, two-half bath log home was designed by nationally recognized architect, specializing in Adirondack/ Western Stick Style architecture.
Chillcoots Builders constructed the house, and Kristin Terjesen with Studio 10 decorated it. The purchase price includes $400,000 in Santa Fe-style furnishings, plus Prickly Pear, a bronze statue by Elie Hazak that showcases his signature approach of giving human feelings and expressions to animals.
Naturally-sourced materials
All construction materials for this magnificent home were naturally sourced, including the full-log exterior and poplar bark siding elements.
The home was built with 14-inch Englemann spruce logs from 10 Mile House British Columbia, using a threaded steel backbone of 3,000 pounds of bolts drilled into the logs to virtually eliminate any log settling.
Area trees felled by pine beetles were handcrafted into railings and the home’s bar. The exterior paneling is made with poplar
bark shingles that required special handling with weights to avoid buckling back into their natural curved shape. An aggressive nail pattern keeps them from cupping on the house.
The downstairs flooring is made of Georgia pine reclaimed from the Sears and Roebuck warehouse in Chicago. The rest of the flooring is rustic hickory. The land around the home is professionally landscaped and includes a playground with a whimsical treehouse.
Special features
The smart home’s state-ofthe-art technological systems include in-floor radiant heating, programmable lighting system, and special alert systems hidden within the log cabin interior. In 2011, the house was awarded the Electronic Technology
House of the Year award. Features highlighted by the judges included the “babysitter”
button in the nursery, which automatically triggered the TV monitor in the master bedroom when noise hit a certain volume level, and the “Mom and Dad” button, which illuminated a pathway from the downstairs bunk room, down the hallway, up the stairs to the master bedroom.
