ONE DEAD, ONE HURT IN ELDORADO CANYON FALL

BOULDER COUNTY» One climber is dead and another seriously injured after they fell while climbing in Eldorado Canyon State Park on Thursday.

According to a release, Boulder County dispatcher­s at 5:41 p.m. Thursday received a call reporting two people had fallen while climbing the Wind Tower in the park.

The climbers were reported to have been at the top of the second pitch of the Wind Ridge route and starting the third pitch. Based on reports from witnesses, the two male climbers, who were equipped with standard equipment, fell 150 to 200 feet before landing against a tree.

Bystanders who had been climbing a different route and witnessed the fall were able to get to the fallen climbers and provide an update and help rescuers from Rocky Mountain Rescue Group.

Upon arrival at 6:11 p.m., a doctor with Rocky Mountain Rescue Group pronounced one of the climbers, a male in his 30s, dead. The second climber, a male in his 20s, had serious injuries. He was taken by ambulance to a helicopter and flown to a trauma center in Denver.

Four escape apartment fire by jumping from second floor.

BOULDER» Four people and two dogs escaped an apartment fire by jumping from the second floor late Thursday.

Boulder Fire-rescue responded to a structure fire in the apartment building, in the 4200 block of Monroe Drive, after getting calls about the blaze shortly after 10 p.m.

When crews arrived, they saw flames and heard reports of people trapped on the second floor. Two adults and two children jumped from the second floor with their two dogs. All four were taken to a hospital with injuries, sustained in the jump, that were not life-threatenin­g.

The cause of the fire, which left the four-unit building uninhabita­ble, is under investigat­ion.
