Peterson back in NFL. Future Pro Football Hall of Fame running back Adrian Peterson is back in the league after signing with Tennessee. The Titans lost rushing leader Derrick Henry indefinitely with a foot injury that required surgery. Peterson joins his sixth team (Minnesota, Arizona, New Orleans, Washington and Detroit before Tennessee) and has all-time rushing rankings of fifth in yards (14,280), six in attempts (3,192) and fourth in touchdowns (118). The Titans (6-2) have a three-game lead over Indianapolis (plus a season sweep of the Colts) in the AFC South.

Ruggs’ career over. We have probably seen the last of receiver Henry Ruggs III in an NFL uniform … as it should be after he was driving 156 mph while drunk (blood alcohol level was more than twice the legal limit) in the middle of the night (3:39 a.m.) in Las Vegas and crashed into another car. At impact, Ruggs was traveling 127 mph and a woman and her dog in the other car were killed. There was also a loaded gun found in Ruggs’ car. The Raiders released him hours later. What a waste of talent and opportunity.

Chargers need bounce-back. The Chargers started 4-1 but have since gone loss at Baltimore, bye week and loss to New England. Los Angeles heads cross country to play Philadelphia on Sunday. Quarterback Justin Herbert completed at least 60.5% during the first five games but has been held to 56.4% and 51.4% in the last two games. Overall, coach Brandon Staley said: “The message is every week has a life of its own. Every week is a different week, but our approach is going to remain consistent. Players want that consistency in performance from their coaches and that allows you to be as good as you can be.”
