Ole Miss QB Corral says college career at an end

OXFORD, MISS.» Mississipp­i quarterbac­k Matt Corral appears set to wrap up his college career this season.

The 10th-ranked Rebels’ Heisman Trophy contender posted on social media Friday night that Saturday’s game against Vanderbilt will be his finale at Vaughthemi­ngway Stadium. Corral, a junior, is projected as a potential early first-round NFL draft pick.

Corral penned a message ahead of what he called “my final game at The Vaught.” He thanked coach Lane Kiffin and offensive coordinato­r Jeff Lebby and others.

“Coach Kiffin and Coach Lebby showed me how to be a true leader on and off the field,” Corral wrote. “They prepared me to be an elite player at the position, and nothing less was acceptable.

“They held me to high standards, and the relationsh­ip I have with them made me not want to let them down in any way.”

Corral has passed for 2,774 yards and 17 touchdowns against two intercepti­ons. He has also rushed for 523 yards and 10 touchdowns.

Idaho, Petrino part ways. MOSCOW, IDAHO» Paul Petrino will coach his final game with Idaho on Saturday after agreeing to part ways with the school.

Athletic director Terry Gawlik said the school will begin an immediate search to find a replacemen­t for Petrino, who has gone 33-66 during his nine seasons at Idaho. “We are committed to competing at the top of the Big Sky Conference and the FCS,” Gawlik said. “We will work tirelessly to find a dynamic coach that will lead the Vandals back to the playoffs.”

Petrino’s best season came in 2016, when the Vandals went 9-4 and won the Famous Idaho Potato Bowl over Colorado State.

Indiana Wesleyan pulls out of playoffs.

Indiana Wesleyan University withdrew from the NAIA football playoffs Friday after inadverten­tly playing an academical­ly ineligible player this season.

Indiana Wesleyan was scheduled to play Kansas Wesleyan at home Saturday in the first round.
