Tigers give Báez $140M, 6 years

Javier Báez is taking his high motor to Motor City.

Báez has agreed to a $140 million, six-year contract with Detroit, giving the Tigers a dynamic bat for the middle of their order.

Báez, who turns 29 on Wednesday, hit .265 with 31 homers and 87 RBIS in 138 games with the Cubs and Mets this season. The move likely puts Báez back at shortstop after he finished the year at second base while playing alongside good friend Francisco Lindor in New York.

Detroit had been looking for a shortstop since it went 77-85 this season, finishing third in the AL Central behind Cleveland and the Chicago White Sox.

White Sox sign reliever Graveman to $24 million, 3-year deal.

Cubs, Yan Gomes agree to $13 million, 2-year deal.

The Chicago Cubs added another catcher on Tuesday, agreeing to a $13 million, two-year contract with Yan Gomes.the Cubs have Willson Contreras behind the plate, but he is eligible for free agency after next season and the team could decide to trade him if they can’t reach a long-term deal this winter. They also could use Gomes to provide more rest for Contreras, who turns 30 in May.

Rays land Raley for $10M, trade Wendle to Marlins, sign Choi. »ST. PETERSBURG, FLA.» The Tampa Bay Rays signed reliever Brooks Raley to a $10 million, two-year contract Tuesday with a club option for 2024.The defending AL East champions also traded All-star infielder Joey Wendle to the Miami Marlins for minor league outfielder Kameron Misner, and agreed with first baseman Ji-man Choi on a $3.2 million, one-year deal that avoids arbitratio­n.

Marlins, Alcantara complete 5year, $56 million contract.

MIAMI» The Miami Marlins completed the signing of right-hander Sandy Alcantara to a five-year contract on Tuesday.the sides agreed Sunday to a deal worth $56 million. The Marlins said the deal also includes an option for a sixth season.

Los Angeles Angels sign longtime Reds RHP Michael Lorenzen. ANAHEIM, CALIF.» Right-hander Michael Lorenzen agreed to a $6.75 million, one-year contract with the Los Angeles Angels on Tuesday night.

The Anaheim native spent his first seven major league seasons with the Cincinnati Reds, making 295 appearance­s mostly as a reliever. He is 23-23 with a 4.07 ERA, 14 saves and 406 strikeouts.

Orioles nearing 1-year deal with Rougned Odor.

The Baltimore Orioles were nearing a one-year agreement Tuesday night with second baseman Rougned Odor, according to a person with knowledge of the deal.

The 27-year-old Odor spent last season with the New York Yankees, hitting .202 with 15 home runs and 39 RBIS in 102 games.

Odor played seven seasons with the Texas Rangers before joining the Yankees.

Rangers finalize $5.2M with OF Kole Calhoun.

deal ARLINGTON, TEXAS» The Texas Rangers finalized their $5.2 million, oneyear deal with free-agent outfielder Kole Calhoun on Tuesday.

Calhoun’s deal includes a $5.5 million club option for 2023.

The 34-year-old Calhoun spent the past two seasons with the Arizona Diamondbac­ks after eight years with the Los Angeles Angels.
