No. 11 Arizona tops Oregon St.

CORVALLIS, ORE.» Bennedict Mathurin scored 29 points and No. 11 Arizona beat Oregon State 90-65 on Sunday.

Christian Koloko added 12 points for the Wildcats (7-0, 1-0 Pac-12).

Jerod Lucas scored 17 points to lead the Beavers (1-8, 0-2), who haven’t won since their opener against Portland State.

Arizona fell behind 13-7 early, responded with a 16-0 run capped by Mathurin’s threepoint play and steadily pulled away, never relinquish­ing the lead.

Oregon State got within six points early in the second half, but a layup by Azuolas Tubelis made it 52-41 with 17:13 left and the Beavers didn’t get within 10 points the rest of the way.

Kerr Kriisa finished with 11 points for Arizona and Tubelis scored 10.

Arizona was supposed to open Pac-12 play at home on Thursday against Washington, but the game was postponed because of COVID-19 issues with the Huskies. That game has been reschedule­d for Jan. 25.

Texas State 71, Denver 58. SAN MARCOS, TEXAS» Shelby Adams posted 14 points as Texas State defeated Denver 71-58 on Sunday.

Mason Harrell had 13 points for Texas State (6-2), which won its fifth consecutiv­e game. Isiah Small added 12 points and eight rebounds.

Caleb Asberry, whose 16 points per game led the Bobcats, scored two points on 1-of-5 shooting in 20 minutes.

KJ Hunt had 14 points for the Pioneers (3-7), who have now lost four consecutiv­e games. Jordan Johnson added 11 points. Michael Henn had 10 points.

WOMEN

CSU 52, UTSA 48. Colorado State forward Karly Murphy led the Rams (7-1) with 16 points and nine rebounds to beat the Texassan Antonio (1-6).

Guard Mckenna Hofschild scored 12 points and grabbed eight rebounds while guard Upe Atosu scored 13 points for Colorado State.

LONG BEACH STATE 50, AIR FORCE 49. Air Force forward Riley Snyder led the team with 13 points but the Falcons fell at home to Long Beach State. Falcons guard Briana Autreythom­pson scored 12 points.

Long Beach State guard Justina King led the Beach with 15.

NO. 2 UCONN 73, NO. 24 NOTRE

DAME 54. STORRS, CONN.» Uconn won its rivalry game against Notre Dame on Sunday but may have lost last year’s national player of the year to a knee injury in the process.

Paige Bueckers scored 22 points before going down with just seconds left in No. 2 Uconn’s 73-54 victory over No. 24 Notre Dame.

Bueckers was dribbling up the court in the final minute of this one when she stumbled, twisting her ankle and coming down awkwardly on her left leg. She went to the floor a few seconds later and had to be carried off the court.

NO. 8 MARYLAND 74, RUTGERS 59. PISCATAWAY, N.J.» Angel Reese scored 18 points to lead Maryland (7-2, 1-0 Big Ten). over Rutgers (4-6, 0-1).

NO. 10 LOUISVILLE 80, BELMONT 66. LOUISVILLE, KY.» Hailey Van Lith scored 16 points and Louisville (7-1) beat Belmont (4-4).

NO. 11 TENNESSEE 64, VIRGINIA TECH 58. BLACKSBURG, VA.» Sara Puckett scored 15 points off the bench and led a decisive scoring run in the fourth quarter as Tennessee (8-0) beat Virginia Tech (7-2).

NO. 12 MICHIGAN 93, AKRON

54. ANN ARBOR, MICH.» Emily Kiser scored a season-high 19 points and Naz Hillmon added 18 points and five assists as Michigan (8-1) steamrolle­d Akron (3-3).

NO. 14 IOWA STATE 94, LONGWOOD 56. AMES, IOWA »Aubrey Joens had career highs of 24 points and 14 rebounds and older sister Ashley Joens had 16 points and 12 rebounds as Iowa State (8-1) beat Longwood (3-4).

NO. 15 TEXAS 76, NO. 17 TEXAS

A&M 60. COLLEGE STATION, TEXAS» Aliyah Matharu scored 26 points, draining five 3-pointers and leading Texas past Texas A&M in an all-lone Star version of the Big 12/SEC Challenge.

Rory Harmon added 18 points and nine assists for Texas (6-1). Sydnee Roby led the Aggies (8-1) with 16 points.

NO. 16 KENTUCKY 90, MERRIMACK 56. LEXINGTON, KY.» Rhyne Howard had 21 points, seven assists, six rebounds and a season-high six steals, and Kentucky (6-1) beat Merrimack (2-5).

NO. 18 OHIO STATE 70, PURDUE

53. WEST LAFAYETTE, IND. » Taylor Mikesell and Braxtin Miller scored 16 points each and Ohio State (6-1) dominated the fourth quarter to beat Purdue (6-3)in the Big Ten opener for both teams.
