Rockies’ battle cry for 2022? Don’t finish last!

- Readers talk and columnist Mark Kiszla responds Mark Kiszla: mkiszla@ denverpost. com or @ markkiszla

Permanent vacation. Here we go, with another year of the Crockies trying to stay out of last place. You can change out the general manager, but if you have the same ownership? I’m a former season- ticket holder who hasn’t been to Coors Field for about 15 years. Back in the day, when I called out late president Keli Mcgregor on the lack of team success, he told me the Rockies were here to make money. I told him I’d spend my money on more vacations. Would like to go back but … Monforts!

Dan, Lakewood

Kiz: Well, the Rockies probably won’t finish in last place, thanks to the ineptitude of the Arizona Diamondbacks, bless their hearts. I’ve seen the over/ under win total for Colorado as low as 67.5 victories, so the wise guys in Las Vegas seem to think our scrappy little team in

Lodo is going to stink. I don’t gamble on sports, but here’s my bold prediction: The Rockies will not lose 90 games this season. ( Hey, they don’t call me Mr. Sunshine for nuthin’.)

Views and brews. I’m looking forward to baseball at Coors Field for the warm sun and cold beer mostly.

Stan, chill dude

Kiz: Don’t forget the Dippin’ Dots and Dinger. We built the perfect ballpark for baseball to be nothing more than background noise.

Welcome mat. I’m looking forward to seeing visiting teams at Coors Field with legit major league rosters that have owners committed to winning.

Kirk, throwing heat Kiz: Denver is a great baseball town, but only if you count the diehards who grew up loving the Cardinals, Cubs, Dodgers, Yankees, Red Sox and Giants. Doesn’t bother me a bit. It’s far less frustrating to see folks born someplace else staging a friendly takeover of Coors Field on a summer evening rather than turning my Valley Highway into a parking lot at all hours of the day.

Party planners. Now you know why Dick and Charlie Monfort won’t ever commit to winning actual baseball games. All they care about is selling tickets to fans that just want to drink on the party deck.

Chruffman, Boulder Kiz: And why would the Monfort brothers change their business plan so long as two million paying customers a year don’t really care if the Rockies win or lose?

Undisputed? You’re right, Kiz. Nikola Jokic has already established himself as the greatest player in Nuggets history. I think David Thompson, Alex English, Fat

Lever and Dan Issel would agree with you. Not sure about Melo, though.

David, Denver

Kiz: I like Carmelo Anthony. Always have. Always will. But I certainly understand why it would absolutely delight some Nuggets to see Melo end his NBA career with a Los Angeles Lakers team that misses the playoffs.

Golden oldies. And today’s parting shot is a test of classic rock trivia.

Nice column about Kris Bryant, Kiz. One thing, though. You’re quoting a 51- year- old song lyric? I mean old guys like me get it and I’m a huge Stephen Stills fan. But really? Then, again maybe Bryant will be a rose in the fisted glove. ( OK, I’ll show myself out now.)

Mike, turns heartache into joy
