The State of Colorado, Nymbl, and Denver Regional Council of Governments ( DRCOG) are committed to helping you improve your balance and stay active in the comfort of your home. That’s why the Nymbl Training app is free to Coloradans ages 60 and up! Nymbl isascientificallyprovenbalance trainingapp that combines fun brain games ( like trivia) and simple body exercises ( like marching in place) to improve your balance and help you keep doing the things you love. Each balance training session takes only 10 minutes a day that you can do at home - and best of all, it’s free!

As you age, you may start to notice changes in your balance, or may have already experienced a fall. Noticing changes in your balance can feel intimidating or scary at times, but it’s important to remember that you’re not alone on this journey to better balance. In fact, most falls are preventable - and by staying active, you can reduce your risk of falling, more confidently participate in life, and do the activities you enjoy most. Because good balance plays a part in helping you do the things you love and live a healthier life, Nymbl is sharing some helpful tips to help you stay active and keep doing the activities you enjoy.

Participating in the activities you enjoy can help you feel more independent, such as going on walks, cooking, or gardening. When it comes to doing your favorite activities, it can be helpful to set a routine that allows you to do them regularly. Routines create structure in your life, providing you with a sense of order. Routines can also give you an idea of what to expect throughout the day, which can reduce stress and anxiety. Activity goals are also a great way to keep up with your favorite hobbies. One activity goal you might include is doing Nymbl three times per week to achieve the best results for your balance, and to keep doing the things you love.

When it comes to staying active, this looks different for everyone. Being active doesn’t mean that you need to do an intense workout, or get all of your exercise done at once. The CDC recommends that older adults do at least 150 minutes of moderate intensity exercise spread throughout each week, and to add muscle strength training about two times per week. One way you can incorporate fun and quick exercises into your routine is to do Nymbl’s 10- minute balance training sessions to improve your balance and help you stay active. While doing Nymbl’s simple body exercises, you’re also exercising your brain at the same time by playing fun brain games, also known as dual- tasking. Dual- tasking challenges you to think and move at the same time, which helps your balance reflexes and better prepares you for the world and its many uncertainties.

The State of Colorado cares about you and your health and wellness needs. Part of your health and wellness includes your balance, which is why The State of Colorado, DRCOG, and Nymbl teamed up to offer older adults ages 60 and up free access to Nymbl’s balance training app, to help you age well and keep doing the activities you love. Older adults in Adams, Arapahoe, Clear Creek, Douglas, Gilpin and Jefferson counties, the City and County of Denver, and the City and County of Broomfield can sign up for Nymbl for free by 1) downloading the Nymbl Training app on their tablet or smartphone ( a phone that can use apps such as Facebook, video messaging or Facetime, online banking, The Weather Channel, or similar), or 2) visiting co. fallsfree. com.
