Draft preview: Defensive line

- — Ryan O’halloran,

Broncos in-house offseason moves: Signed DT D.J. Jones (San Francisco) and DL Jonathan Kongbo (Winnipeg of CFL) and re-signed DE Deshawn Williams.

Under contract: Williams (one more year), Kongbo (two), D.J. Jones (three), DE Dre’mont Jones (one), NT Mike Purcell (two), DE Marquiss Spencer (two), DE/DT Jonathan Harris (two) and DE/DT Mctelvin Agim (two).

Need scale (1-10): 4. Jones was signed from the 49ers to help the Broncos’ rush defense and provide an interior pass-rush presence, but a rotational player should be added since Purcell has battled injuries the last two years and Agim has yet to make an impact in two years (third-round pick in 2020).

TOP FIVE

1. Jordan Davis, Georgia: At 341 pounds, ran a 4.78-second 40 at combine. Ninety- one tackles, seven sacks in 47 games. Averaged only 25.2 plays per game last year.

2. Travis Jones, Connecticut: Bright spot of terrible Huskies program with 133 tackles (19 for lost yardage), 8½ sacks in 35 games. Immediate run-stopping presence.

3. Devonte Wyatt, Georgia: Posted whopping 27 quarterback pressures in 14 games (2½ sacks) for Bulldogs last year. Best position is shaded defensive tackle in 4-3 scheme.

4. Demarvin Leal, Texas A&M: Played only 33 college games, but firstteam All-america last year (58 tackles, 8½ sacks). Brings versatility to play end and tackle in NFL.

5. Perrion Winfrey, Oklahoma: Played two years apiece at Iowa Western Community College and Oklahoma. Six sacks and 42 total tackles in 23 games for Sooners.

BRONCOS’ OPTIONS

The Broncos don’t have a first-round pick, but do have nine selections. A look at five possibilities:

1. Matthew Butler, Tennessee: Career totals of 152 tackles, 9½ sacks in 53 games (26 starts).

2. Thomas Booker, Stanford: Twice named second-team All-pac 12. Only 2½ sacks over final two college seasons (18 games), but 59 tackles last year.

3. Otito Ogbonnia, UCLA: Lifted the 225-pound bar 29 times at combine. Started 27 of 43 games for Bruins (79 tackles, 4½ sacks).

4. Chris Hinton, Michigan: Son of former NFL offensive tackle (Chris) who was traded for John Elway. Only two sacks in 32 games so projects as base- down run defender (56 tackles).

5. Jayden Peevy, Texas A&M: Solid numbers in 58 games — 137 tackles (19 for lost yardage), 7½ sacks, eight pass break-ups and four blocked kicks.
