Mile High Puppy Bowl
Friday: While a half-dozen Colorado pups have already made Animal Planet’s annual Puppy Bowl on Super Bowl Sunday (Feb. 12), Denver International Airport is again offering a local version to calm travelers and attract non-flyers to the airport. Like the national contest, the pups will be available for adoption, in this case through Denver Animal Shelter. Running 10 a.m.-noon, the free Puppy Bowl event takes place in a miniature gridiron where the cuties can romp, play and nap. A Flea for Valentine’s Day
Saturday: Amid the proand anti-valentine’s Day events in Denver this weekend is a naked truth: either one’s fundamentally about spending money. If you’d
like to grab something more lasting than a $250 meal or bouquet of roses, visit the Valentine’s Day Flash Market at Mile High Spirits on Saturday, Feb. 11. Free and open the public, the flea market features 14 local vendors hawking jewelry, paintings, sneakers and dried fruit (to name a few) alongside DJS and drink specials — $4 single-pour drinks — and Mexican BBQ from Ella’s Food Truck. The latest from pop-up producer Hangin’ N Slangin’ runs 2 p.m.-6:30 p.m. on Feb. 11 at 2201 Lawrence St. in Denver. It’s free, but you can reserve a spot at eventbrite.com.
Free Black History Month music
Wednesday: Denver multihyphenate artist Shane Franklin, also known as SF1, plays focused but stylistically wide-ranging music along with his crack backing ensemble, The Crew — from beat-driven originals to contemporary hip hop greats such as Outkast. He’ll play a free concert starting at noon on Wednesday, Feb.
15, to commemorate Black History Month in Aurora.

Saturday-feb. 28: Also kicking off this weekend for Black History Month: the Sie Filmcenter’s series appreciating Black-film soundtracks, this time focusing on classic 1990s titles.
The program, “Black History Sounds Like — The
’90s Film Edition!,” begins Saturday, Feb. 11 at Denver Film’s Sie theater with “The Bodyguard,” followed by “Love Jones” (Wednesday, Feb. 15) — with special guest and Grammy winner Derrick Hodge — “Set It Off” (Feb. 18), “New Jack City” (Feb. 22), “Space Jam”
