Instead of gathering to celebrate Robert Goad’s fifth wedding anniversary on Sunday, his family will gather for a celebration of his life after he was shot to death Wednesday.

Goad was shot about 3:45 a.m. Wednesday on Colorado Boulevard, near East 10th Avenue, when he was driving to work. Police investigators are looking for a suspect, or suspects, in the case.

On Friday, Goad’s sister, Barbara, and her son, Brian, talked about him at a news conference downtown at Denver Police Department headquarters. “Who would do this to him?” an emotional Barbara Goad asked. “It is pretty devastating; he was just going to work.” Goad, 58, was a longtime employee with Federal Express and was working as a driver. He purchased, two weeks ago, a 2023 Ford Maverick pickup after driving his previous vehicle for 17 years. Goad was in his new truck when he was shot.

“He was well-liked at work,” Barbara Goad said. “This came out of nowhere.

“All of a sudden, your whole life changes,” she said of her loss. Goad married his partner, Oscar, five years ago on Feb. 12, Barbara said. Oscar, whose last name was not provided, was too distraught to attend the news conference.

Goad enjoyed cooking and traveling. He owned two dogs and was thrilled with his new pickup. The truck, now seized as evidence in the crime, was riddled with bullet holes, Barbara said. Goad lived near the area where he was shot.

“It has been really, really tough on everyone,” Barbara Goad said. “It’s hard to wrap your head around it.

It’s something you can’t even imagine.”

As she spoke, mostly keeping her emotions in check, her son sat beside her and held her hand.

“He was a great guy,” Brian said of his uncle. “He would do anything, for anyone, at any time.”

Denver police are asking for the public’s help in the case. Anyone with information on the shooting, or on a suspect, is asked to call Metro Denver Crime Stoppers at 720-913-7867 (STOP).

On Friday, Barbara spoke to not only honor her brother but to share information to generate interest in the case and possible tips.

“This can happen to anyone,” she said. “Please, please, please help us find who did this. I don’t know that we will ever get closure. I hope.”
