Chick-fil-a testing new plant-based sandwich in Denver

- By Tiney Ricciardi cricciardi@denverpost.com

Fast-food chain Chickfil- A is adding its first plant- based sandwich to the menu and Denverites will be among the first to get a taste.

Starting Feb. 13, the restaurant will test a cauliflower sandwich in three markets across the U. S., including the Mile High City, according to an announcement Feb. 9. Diners in Charleston, S.C. and North Carolina’s Greensboro-triad region will also get to try the new product.

In a statement, Chickfil-a said the cauliflower sando was inspired by its signature chicken sandwich and touted it as uncannily similar in appearance. The veggie offering will be made and served the same way, too: marinated, breaded and seasoned, pressure- cooked, and served on a toasted bun with two dill pickle chips.

Leslie Neslage, the company’s director of menu and packaging, said the new addition is in direct response to customer feedback. In-house chefs have been working on the recipes for nearly four years and testing various plantbased options, the company said.

“Guests told us they wanted to add more vegetables into their diets, and they wanted a plantforward entrée that tasted uniquely Chick- f i l- A,” Neslage said in a statement. “Our new sandwich is made with the highest quality ingredients and whole vegetables, and we hope it offers customers another reason to dine at Chick-fil-a.”

It ’ s unclear exact ly where the caulif lower sandwich will be available in Denver. The company suggests checking the Chick-fil-a app or contacting your local restaurant to find out if they’re serving the new menu item.

Chick-fil-a is just the latest fast-food chain to dip into plant-based offerings. In 2021, Chipotle added plant-based chorizo to its menu.
