Third-period goal gives Pioneers 4-3 win over CC
Junior forward Jared Wright scored midway through the third period and No. 4 University of Denver (24-9-3, 15-7-2 NCHC) held off a late push by the No. 10 Colorado College (2012-3, 14-8-2 NCHC) on Saturday night to win 4-3 in the regularseason finale.
The victory secures Denver the No. 2 seed in the NCHC Playoffs. The Pioneers will host No. 7 seed Minnesota Duluth in a best-of-three series next weekend. No. 4 seed Colorado College host No. 5 seed Omaha.
The teams spilt the weekend series after CC won 4-3 on Friday night in Colorado Springs.

Horan scores on header; U.S. beats Brazil 1-0 for Women’s Gold Cup title
SAN DIEGO>> Lindsey Horan scored on a header in first-half stoppage time and the United States beat Brazil 1-0 on Sunday to win the CONCACAF Women’s Gold Cup.
The United States lifted the trophy despite being stunned by a loss to Mexico in the group stage of the tournament. It was the first women’s Gold Cup, with the event created to bring teams in the region more meaningful competition.

Gobert fined $100,000 for directing “money sign” gesture toward referee
NEW YORK>> The NBA fined Minnesota center Rudy Gobert $100,000 on Sunday, two days after he implied that referee Scott Foster was not calling games fairly and further suggesting that gambling is having a detrimental impact on the outcome of games.
The fine is the maximum that the NBA could give under terms of the collective bargaining agreement.

RIO GRANDE, PUERTO RICO>> Brice Garnett holed a 15-foot birdie putt on the fourth playoff hole over Erik Barnes to win the Puerto Rico Open in his first tournament of the year, sending him to The Players Championship next week and giving him PGA Tour status for the next three years.
