Breck Brewery says goodbye to Arena, hello to new Nuggets beer

- By Tiney Ricciardi cricciardi@denverpost.com

The reigning NBA champion Denver Nuggets are dribbling toward another playoff run. Now that calls for a toast, and Breckenridge Brewery has just the beer.

This week, the brewery announced a limited-edition release called the Championship Edition Mile High City Golden Ale, “an easy-drinking, light ale,” according to a statement.

The can features the logo the Nuggets used from 1981-82 to 1992-93, a rainbow-colored Denver skyline against a mountainscape as a nod to the Nuggets’ hometown and city pride, as well as a logo noting the team’s 2023 NBA championship.

The beer has been available at Ball Arena in 19.2-ounce tall boys for a couple of months; it’s also now available in retail stores in 12-ounce cans, including in 15-packs.

This isn’t the first time Breckenridge Brewery has released a beer to celebrate the Nuggets, but it is the first since Anheuser-busch Inbev sold the Colorado-founded brewery and seven other craft brands to Tilray, a global cannabis and beer company that also owns Sweetwater

Brewing.

That’s why fans who visit Ball Arena may notice a major change to the name of the enormous restaurant at the base of the arena. The former Breckenridge Brewery Mountain House is now the Michelob ULTRA Mountain House. Michelob is owned by AB Inbev

“Michelob ULTRA is a distinctive Anheuser-busch brand that is a perfect fit for the relaxed, cozy vibe of a historic lodge that the Michelob ULTRA Mountain House evokes,” Jim Mulvihill, spokesperson for Kroenke Sports & Entertainment, which operates Ball Arena, said by email.
