PUCKETT, ROBERT EUGENE

-

Bob was born January 5, 1929, in Quincy, Illinois. The youngest of three brothers, Bob had an entrepreneurial spirit from the beginning. After marrying Elizabeth at the age of 19 and 20 respectively, they opened a grocery store. In Bob’s words “they ate all the profits”. Nick Jordan, from Mt. Vernon, hired Bob to work the oil patch in North Dakota. That was the beginning of an illustrious career in the oil business. After three years and the birth of one son, Greg, Bob moved the family to Denver in 1953. Their daughter Peggy was born in Denver, followed by their son Jeff. Upon Nick’s retirement Bob took over and together with his keen business sense, honest word and on handshakes, built a successful company. His son Jeff joined him in the business in 1982 and they enjoyed 25 years in partnership together. Bob enjoyed going to the office into his 90th year. Elizabeth and Bob joined the Vintage Club in Indian Wells in 1983 and enjoyed years of fun there. A member at Cherry Hills Country Club since 1972 he was a fixture in the men’s card room. Gin Rummy was Bob’s passion, much to the dismay of Liz. “Pucky” was a savvy player and developed many long-standing friendships in the card room. The one thing that seems to be the most common comment when talking about Bob is his kindness. He was genuinely the nicest man. He was as courteous to a stranger as he was to his family, and he always and discretely helped those in need. He had a dry sense of humor, a beautiful head of white hair, stunning blue eyes and a heart of gold. He was a man of “the greatest generation” and will be missed beyond measure by his family and friends. Bob passed away at the age of 95 after a life certainly well lived. He is predeceased by his wife of 70 years, Elizabeth and his oldest son Greg. Survived by his daughter Peggy (Dan), son Jeff (Nancy), eight grandchildren and eleven great grandchildren.

There will be a celebration of life on Friday, April 12, 2024, at Cherry Hills Country Club from 3:00pm-5:00pm.
