What’s the forecast this weekend, according to NWS Des Moines?

Saturday

⬤ Sunny, with a high near 59 degrees ⬤ West/northwest wind of 6 to 11 mph, with gusts as high as 18 mph

⬤ Partly cloudy at night, with a low around 40 degrees Sunday ⬤ Sunny with a high near 69 degrees

⬤ Mostly clear in the night with a low around 42 degrees

Tips for preparing for upcoming frosty weather

⬤ Tropical plants or house plants should be moved inside. They don’t like weather under 50 degrees.

⬤ The same goes for decorative plants. Before bringing foliage inside, be sure to check for insects. If you can’t move the plants into your home, a garage could be the next best thing.

⬤ Experts have offered their recommendations on how Iowans can best protect themselves and their belongings for cooler temperatures on the horizon.

⬤ Protect your pets by bringing them indoors or by making sure they have adequate housing to protect them from the elements. Contact the Animal Rescue League or the Des Moines Police Department’s non-emergency number at 515-283-4811 for more information on keeping your pets safe in the cold.

⬤ To prevent pipes from freezing, leave a faucet slowly dripping to keep water flowing and open under-sink cabinets to allow warm air to circulate near your pipes. Check your water meter to make sure your pipes are not frozen.
