Terrance Johnson-Rawls, the youngest of three defendants charged in a shooting that injured three people at an after-prom party in 2022, pleaded guilty Wednesday to intimidation with a dangerous weapon, a class C felony.

Johnson-Rawls, 20, submitted his guilty plea Wednesday morning in the Iowa District Court for Polk County, and was sentenced to serve 10 years by Judge David Nelmark.

As part of his plea agreement, Johnson-Rawls’ sentence will run concurrent with other unrelated federal charges he’s facing.

Jaren Rhoden, 21, one of the other defendants charged with JohnsonRawls, pleaded guilty to two class C felonies in July and faces 10 years in prison with a mandatory minimum sentence of seven years served.

Jeffery Stickel, 54, was charged with disorderly house in violation of Des

Moines municipal ordinance, as his charges stem from him being the homeowner where the party took place.

Stickel pleaded not guilty and was found guilty by a jury in early December 2023, according to court documents. He was ordered to pay a fine of $200, applicable surcharges and court costs.

As previously reported by the Register, the charges stem from a May 8, 2022, after-prom party held in the 400 block of Foster Drive for mostly Roosevelt High School students. After midnight, officers found three Des Moines teenagers who had been shot and had non life-threatening injuries.

Officers found there were 200 people, mostly teenagers, at the party. An uninvited group had arrived at the home and a fight ensued, during which shots were fired.

Officials say they obtained video evidence that allegedly shows Rhoden and Johnson-Rawls pointing handguns at people at the party.
