Poetry Party Forges New Paths for the Moreno Valley

- By: TAMMIE MCDONALD, Contributing Writer

Northern New Mexico never lacks for inspiration. Where poets and artists alike drink from the ether and create the most amazing things. If “necessity is the mother of invention”, then “NOW” is the time to rally our area’s poetry fans and make new pathways for more poetry events

On March 18th Shuter Library of Angel Fire hosted a lovely public Poetry Party. Director of the library, Melody Costa, opened the doors to this event, after hours, which included free finger foods, wine, and beautiful readings by attendees. We also met to instigate sign-ups, network new ideas and to stir the next pathways in poetry, because in this part of the world, we live life INSPIRED, and inspiration IS contagious.

Tammie McDonald, instigated the event with Melody and will be heading up the future poetry activities at Shuter Library. She was thrilled by the turn out and has many new ideas forthcoming for growing poetry interest. She has started a new group called the “Moreno Valley-Voices In Poetry Society” , (MV-VIPS) which includes a newly created facebook page, by the same name, to promote a plethora of local and regional poetry activities and events, as well as helping rally together poets and fans alike, to work our synergies and build engaging new communities for poetry visions and connections which are about to bloom big in the Moreno Valley, and beyond.

We also started a new public facebook poetry group page called “Mountains and Valleys Poetry Paths” for all poetry writers and readers, novices and professionals, to explore and share their creative works, via this free public platform, like a fun “virtual microphone”.

Other new pathways being generated for the 2024 summer include “ANGELS AND EAGLES” Poetry Clubs for Kids, eventually involving both the Angel Fire and Eagle Nest Libraries. Plus a new “Poetry Inspirators Club” for the grown-up poets, to meet up for casual sharing and inspiring. We also have more Poetry Party nights being planned at Shuter Library, TBA, including guest poets, and more public microphone reading events.

Beautiful poetic things are evolving this year in the Moreno Valley, and we can’t wait to announce all the new pathways being created for all poetry lovers to participate in.
