Classes resume at Arts Place
In an effort to bring a sense of normalcy and a splash of color back to the world, Arts Place Auglaize-Mercer Center is bringing back ArtWorks classes for the fall. The classes offer community members to try their hand at a variety of art projects taught by experienced artists.
“It’s a really good way to get out of the house and do something fun,” said center Director Heather Dowell. “Unfortunately because of COVID, we had to suspend our spring classes so it’s been almost a year since we’ve been able to offer classes. We’re really looking forward to getting students back in here and getting the creative juices flowing in the community again.”
The Auglaize-Mercer
Center is offering watercolors with Pat Rayman; resin casted jewelry, paper quilling and alcohol inks with Lilli Hausfeld and henna, face painting, Creativity for Kids, and acrylic painting with Chelsey Grillot.
Dowell noted that each artist is an expert in the classes they are teaching so participants can expect a quality lesson while having a lot of fun.
“Pat Rayman is an award-winning watercolor artist who has had her works displayed all over the country, she’s been in magazines and books plus she’s a retired school teacher and allaround amazing woman,” she said. “Lilli has won awards for her resin casting work and received honorable mentions for her alcohol inks at our annual ArtFest events. With Chelsey, she was a makeup artist at Universal Studios in Los Angeles so when you take her face painting and henna classes, you know it’ll be great work.
“When you take classes here, you’re not just getting someone who likes art as an instructor, you’re getting a truly talented, teaching artist with the credentials to back up their work.”
Enrollment for classes is currently open for all classes and class sizes are limited to allow for social distancing. Dowell said that based on the size of the center’s classroom, six students are permitted for each class and masks are required while in the center.
All materials are provided but students are welcome to bring their own if they would prefer. All surfaces and any shared materials are regularly disinfected to prevent the spread of any germs.
“With some classes, we may have enough supplies that everyone can take their supplies home with them at the end of the class, further limiting cross-contamination,” Dowell added.
The upcoming class schedule starts on Oct. 13 with resin casting and a one-time only henna class is set for Oct. 15. Face painting is being held on Oct. 29, just in time for Halloween.
Prices for classes vary from a minimum of $20 for paper quilling, henna and face painting to a maximum of $90 for a six-week watercolors class.
