Man fleas courthouse after getting served warrant on Friday

- By BOB TOMASZEWSKI Staff Writer

A Cridersville man wasn’t interested in being served a warrant Friday, despite the fact he was already in the Auglaize County Courthouse waiting for a scheduled hearing.

Elias Good, 25, took off running when officers approached, left the courthouse and hopped in the same red van that he arrived in — and then van left the scene.

Wapakoneta police officers and Auglaize County sheriff deputies engaged in a short pursuit after trying to serving Good the warrant. The Cridersville man was in the courthouse for a 10:45 a.m. hearing for his second OVI in 10 years and driving without a valid license, both first-degree misdemeanors, and a charge of reasonable control, a minor misdemeanor from an incident in July.

The warrant in question was for possession of drugs from an incident May 3. Chief Deputy Michael Peterson said Good took off on foot and eventually reached a red Ford van; the van was then pulled over near Benton and South Pine Streets.

A woman driving the van is reportedly involved in the incident but has not yet been identified her as the investigation is ongoing.

More than a year ago, in July 2019, Good had been sentenced and served a year in jail — minus 61 days prior jail credit — on another drug possession case. In that case a bench warrant was issued for Good’s arrest after he failed to appear for a hearing.

A report will be filed for potential additional charges related to the pursuit.
