50 Years Ago This Week – 1970

Fifty years ago this week in 1970, the tough boys’ basketball schedule continued to haunt the Minster Wildcats’ basketball squad as they fell in a tight game to the Ottoville Big Green by a final of 50-48. Ottoville held a tight advantage coming out of the gate, leading 16-13 at the conclusion of the first period. Minster hung tough though, and knotted things at 27 points apiece on the scoreboard at the end of the first half. The Wildcats found themselves down two points after three quarters of play, but despite playing even with the Big Green in the final stanza, the shots just wouldn’t fall as they slipped by the narrow two-point margin and dropped to 0-5 on the year. Leading the Wildcats on the scoreboard was Jerry Baumer with 18 points, John Dues with 13, and Brad Hausfeld with 11 counters.

25 Years Ago This Week – 1995

Twenty-five years ago this week in 1995, the New Bremen boys’ basketball team bumped their record to 3-1 on the campaign following their non-league victory on the road at Botkins by a final of 52-44. Head coach Gary Jones’ Cardinals held a slim 11-10 edge at the end of the first period before pulling in command 26-21 at intermission. Botkins roared back to knot things up at 36 points after three quarters, but the Cardinals took over in the final minutes to take the eight-point triumph. Leading the way for the Crimson and Gold was Brian Koesters with 15 points, while Jon Eckert pulled down 12 rebounds.

10 Years Ago This Week – 2010

Ten years ago this week in 2010, the New Knoxville boys’ basketball team hit the road and had little trouble on the court as they dismantled the Waynesfield-Goshen Tigers 75-41 in non-league play. The Rangers jumped in command 11-7 at the end of the first period before fattening their cushion to 41-22 at the halftime break. They continued to roll in the second half by out-scoring the Tigers 34-19 and eventually leave with the 34-point victory. Marcas Reineke paced the Rangers with 27 points and was joined in double-digits by Brian Bambauer and Scott Schwieterman with 11 points apiece in the victory.
