Ward, Howell lead All- Ohio honors
Four St. Marys Roughriders were named to the Division III All- Ohio football teams announced Wednesday by the Ohio Prep Sportswriters Association.
Junior Tanner Howell led the way for the
Roughriders’ selections as a first-team selection as a defensive back. Making his third such all-state selection, Bryan Ward earned third- team honors as tackle and making the teams as honorable mention selections were Hunter Fultz at defensive tackle and punter Brandon Bowers.
Ward was part of an offensive line that paved the way for an offensive that produced 24.9 points per game and 251.6 rushing yards per game.
The senior tackle has been a starting tackle for the Roughriders since his sophomore season, Ward ends his career as a two-time all
state selection, notching special mention honors last season.
As a punter, Bowers had 32 punts totaling 1,133 yards, an average of 35.4 yards per punt with 14 kicks downed inside the 20 yard line.
Howell slid between middle linebacker and defensive back through
out the season where he racked up a team-high 95 tackles.
He also had one interception and one sack.
In his second full season playing football, Fultz finished his career with 57 tackles — second-most on the defensive line — and three sacks.
Hamilton Ross’ Jackson Gifford was named the Division’s Offensive Player of the Year and Mitchael Hall Jr. of Streetsboro and Copley’s Antoine Campbell were named co-Defensive Players of the Year. Chardon head coach Mitch Hewitt was the Division III Coach of the Year.
