Riders girls win Holiday Classic Tournament
CINCINNATI — The St. Marys Roughriders girls bowling team were crowned the 2020 Holiday Classic Tournament champions on Saturday.
In the first round, the Riders defeated Seton 177-174, 145- 192,163-149, then beat Turpin 186-147, 182-143 and No. 6-seeded Fairfield 181-165, 174- 169 to advance to the championship round against beating top-seeded Colerain 158-142, 158-216, 145-139.
Tricia Yahl led the Roughriders with a 389 series, followed by Lily Steinberg with a 353 series, Allyson Speckman with a 349 and Chloe Gibson rolled a 348 series. Ella Kable rounded out the scoring with a 149.
The Roughriders boys team placed seventh in the final standings in the boys tournament on Sunday. The team beat Georgetown in the opening round 177- 156 and 219-166, but fell to Elder in the quarterfinal round 185- 181, 196-187. Hamilton won the tournament, beating out Loveland in three games, 169-191, 201-174, 210-179.
Carter Monbeck led the Roughriders with a 422 series, followed by a 414 series by Junior Hurley and Cayden Ballweg rolled with a 393 series. Jonathan Perez- Shinabery bowled a 340 series and Devin Shannon rounded out the Roughriders’ scoring with a 199.
The Minster Wildcats boys bowling team remains unbeaten after defeating Fort Recovery 2,361-2,183 in Midwest Athletic Conference play on Saturday.
Austin Moeller led the Wildcats (5-0) with a 408 series, followed by a 368 score from Chandler Hoskins. Luke Lazier rolled a 270 and Isaiah Vanderhorst rounded out the two- game series scored with a 267.
Caleb Pfell rolled a (163) and Wyatt Kemper finished with a 105.
The New Bremen Cardinals boys bowling team is also unbeaten after they defeated Versailles 2,753-2,481 on Saturday.
Nicholas Alig led the way for the Cardinals (4- 0) with a 450 series, followed by Maverick Nelson rolling a 411 series and Wyatt Dicke bowling a 402 series.
Jared Bergman rolled a 326 to round out the two-game series scores while Clint Voress (162) and Jack Wilson (139) each bowled one game.

The Minster Wildcats girls bowling team defeated Fort Recovery 2,028-1,837 on Saturday led by Mara Blanke’s 332 series.
Kara Gabel followed with a 276, Emma Goubeaux rolled a 276 and Cora Heitkamp finished with a 271 series. Lily Arnold (114) and Colleen Poeppelman (108) each rolled one game for the Wildcats (4-1).
The New Bremen girls team suffered its first loss of the season with a 2,126-1,742 defeat to Versailles on Saturday.
Emma Bambauer paced the Cardinals (2-1) with a 273 series, followed by a 260 series from Callie Wells, a 236 series from Emma Keller and Lexa Steinke’s 211 series.
Alayna Ross (131) and Megan Ritter (99) rounded out the scoring for New Bremen.
