Riders make splash in swim opener
The St. Marys Roughriders swim and dive team won their try-meet with St. Henry and Minster on Saturday.
In relays, the Roughriders girls 200-yard medley quartet of Ciera Rupert, Alivia Link, Emma Link and Sophie James won the event under a time of 2:03.84 while Minster’s boys team of Nicholas Clune, Lucas Stammen, Joseph Magoto and Ben Stammen won with their time of 1:43.68.
Minster’s quarter of Clune, the Stammen brothers and Alex Albers won the 200-yard freestyle relay with a time of 1:34.82 while the Riders boys team of Reese Triplett, Griffin Luebke, Brian Speckman and Xander Spees took first in the
400 free relay with their time of 3:51.17. The St. Marys girls quarter of Liz Ackroyd, Abbi Hertenstein, Raeh Wehnes and James won the girls version with their time of 5:02.12.
James won the girls 200-yard freestyle with a time of 2:24.63. Reese Triplett won the boys version with his time of 2:01.72.
St. Marys swept the 200-yard individual medley with Rupert winning the girls version with her time of 2:26.40 and Luebke finishing with a time of 2:08.72. Rupert also won the 100 backstroke with her time of 1:08.61 and Griffin was the champion of the breaststroke with a time of 1:06.67.
Ben Stammen won the boys 50 free with a time of 23:00 and Alivia Link won the girls race with her time of 1:15.12.
The Roughriders also won the 100 butterfly with Charlie Krebs taking first with his time of 58.46 and Taylor Ott finishing with her top time of 1:05.98 for the girls.
Minster won the 100 free with Alex Albers (54.94) and the girls 500 with Cameo Cedarleaf (6:07.53), while Triplett was the winner of the boys 500 free (5:28.26).
Clune won the boys 100 backstroke with a time of 1:01.04.
