Hey, I remember THAT!
50 Years Ago This Week – 1970
Fifty years ago this week in 1970, fueled by Bob Kruse’s 40 points, the New Knoxville Rangers picked up their sixth victory of the season with a 108-94 victory over the New Bremen Cardinals. The battle, which seemingly demonstrated very little defense, began with the Rangers in command 31-21 at the end of the first quarter. The Cardinals rallied in the second stanza and pulled to within four points at halftime at 52-49, but the second half went New Knoxville’s way as they out-scored New Bremen, 55-45. Bob Phlipot was the leading scorer for the Cardinals as he tallied 28 points in his teams’ setback which pushed them to 4-5 at the midway point of the season.
25 Years Ago This Week – 1995
Twenty-five years ago this week in 1995, the Minster girls’ basketball team improved to 6-0 on the young season and 2-0 in the Midwest Athletic Conference with a 43-25 victory over the Marion Local Flyers. Marion Local leapt out in front 12-4 following one stanza before Minster out-scored them by an identical score in the second period and the two squads headed to the locker room at halftime with the score knotted at 16 points. Adjustments at halftime from head coach Nann Stechschulte obviously worked in Minster’s favor as they demolished the Flyers 27-9 in the third and fourth quarters and rolled to the 18-point victory. Sara Buschur led the Orange and Black in the scoring department with 14 points, while Lauren Shenk chipped in 11 in the triumph.
10 Years Ago This Week – 2010
Ten years ago this week in 2010, the Minster Wildcats, led by head coach Nann Stechschulte, improved to 4-0 on the season and 2-0 in the Midwest Athletic Conference with a tight 44-43 victory in Minster. The home team edged in front 14-10 after one quarter before the Blue Jays cut their deficit to two points at intermission, with the Wildcats in charge 24-22. The two squads deadlocked at seven points apiece in the third period, permitting Minster to keep the two-point lead heading into the final quarter. The Blue Jays pulled in front midway through the fourth quarter by four points, but with 2.6 seconds left, Erica Fullenkamp swished a jumper to give her team the thrilling come-from-behind victory. Delanie Wolf led the charge for the Wildcats with 12 points in the victory.
