Cardinals, Rangers win over weekend

NEW KNOXVILLE — Four players scored double-digit points and the New Knoxville Rangers won the second game of the season with a 61- 49 win against Temple Christian on Saturday.

The Pioneers (1-3) led 12-9 after the first quarter but the Rangers (2- 5) outscored Temple Christian 52- 37 the rest of the game.

Patrick Covert scored eight of his 21 points in the second quarter and seven more in the fourth while Carson Bierlein tallied six of his 11 points in the fourth quarter.

Sam Anspach scored six of his 10 points in the second quarter and Thomas sprinkled in 10 points for the Rangers.

Max Henschen contribute­d five points and scoring two points each were Ryan Osborne and Ryland Dryness.

New Knoxville will play Tuesday at St. Marys.

NEW BREMEN 74, RIVERSIDE 41

DEGRAFF — New Bremen jumped out to a 41-19 lead at the half and out out-rebounded the Pirates en route to a 74- 41 non-conference boys basketball game on Saturday.

The Cardinals (3-2) lead by as much as 22-9 in the opening minute of the second quarter, but Riverside went on a 6-3 run to pull within 10, but New Bremen concluded the first half with a 16- 4 advantage and out-rebounded the Pirates (1-5) 17-2 during that stretch.

The Cardinals won the battle on the boards 42- 25, including 23 offensive rebounds to Riverside’s seven offensive boards.

The Cards also distribute­d the ball away, 18 assists to Riverside’s 6 and record 18 steals.

David Homan led the way for New Bremen with 17 points and seven rebounds, followed by Trevor Bergman with his 13 points and four assists.

Reece Busse added 12 points and six rebounds and Mitchell Hays contribute­d eight points and nine rebounds.

Dan Homan finished with eight points and seven assists and Kyle Tenkman recorded seven points.

New Bremen has won two of the last three games after a 1-1 start to the season.

The Cardinals also won the junior varsity game 71-21.

New Bremen will play Tuesday at Missisinaw­a Valley.
