Cardinals use deep ball to clip Blue Jays in OT

NEW BREMEN — New Bremen outscored Delphos St. John’s 11-5 in overtime to come away with a 62-56 win in Midwest Athletic Conference girls basketball action on Thursday.

Elli Roetgerman led the Cardinals (4-5, 2-2 MAC) with 18 points, followed by Madison Cordonnier who scored 17 points — including five 3-pointers. Roetgerman and Cordonnier accounted for eight of the team’s 11 points in OT and 17 points combined in the fourth and OT.

Kaylee Freund followed with eight points and Katie Howell and Aliyah Truman each added six points.

The team finished with 11 3-pointers.

Three players finished in double figures for St. John’s led by Melanie Koenig’s 19 points and Paige Gaynier with 16 points, including three 3-pointers. Elly Wrasman added 13 points for the Blue Jays (7-5, 2-2).

The Cardinals also won the junior varsity game 23-7.

New Bremen will host St. Marys on Tuesday.

ST. MARYS 46, VAN WERT 35

VAN WERT — The St. Marys Roughrider­s girls basketball team got back on the winning track on Thursday with a 46-35 victory against Western Buckeye League foe Van Wert.

A second-half surge paved the way for the Riders (8-3, 3-1 WBL) after going into the half trailing by two. St. Marys outscored Van Wert (4- 6, 2-2) 22-9 in the final 16 minutes to come out with a win.

Kendall Dieringer led the way for the second-half comeback with 15 of her game-high 21 points coming in the second half. The junior guard scored all but two points in the fourth quarter as the team outscored the Cougars 12-5 in the final stanza.

Noey Ruane and Haley Felver each finished with seven points followed by four points from Cora Rable and a 3-pointer in the first quarter by Kiley Tennant.

Karsyn McGlothen and Morgan Hesse each added a basket.

Jaylyn Richard paced the Cougars in the first half with 9

points but finished the night scoring just three in the second half for a total of 12 points. Sofi Houg followed with nine points, but just two in the final 16 minutes.

The Roughrider­s will travel on Tuesday to New Bremen to take on the Cardinals.

3. MINSTER 70, PARKWAY 41

MINSTER — Minster shot 56% from the floor and 43% from beyond the arc en route to a 70- 41 win against Parkway in Midwest Athletic Conference girls basketball action on Thursday.

The Wildcats (8-1, 4- 0 MAC) move into sole possession of first place in the MAC standings with their win and New Knoxville loss to Fort Recovery.

Minster shot 29-of-52 from the floor and 6-of- 14 from 3-point range while Parkway finished with a combined 23 field goals.

The Wildcats will play at Ottoville on Saturday.
