50 Years Ago This Week – 1970

Fifty years ago this week in 1971, the Minster Wildcats and New Bremen Cardinals tangled on the hardwood with the Cardinals ending the evening by notching the 50-45 triumph. Following a 12-12 tie at the end of the first quarter, the Wildcats pulled in front by a point at halftime, 22-21. The Cardinals lit the scoreboard up in the third stanza, out-scoring Minster 17-5 to take the 38-27 command. The Wildcats managed to out-score their opponents by six points in the closing period, but it wasn’t quite enough as the Cardinals took the five- point triumph. Jack Wissman led New Bremen with 15 points on the evening, while Jim Raterman paced Minster with 15 counters in his teams’ defeat.

25 Years Ago This Week – 1995

Twenty-five years ago this week in 1996, the Minster boys’ basketball team picked up a non-conference victory in Minster over the Jackson Center Tigers by a final of 71-48. The Wildcats led at all stops including 18-11 at the end of the first quarter and 41-22 at intermission. Although the second half was a little more back-and-forth, the Wildcats managed to out-score the Tigers 30-26 to enjoy the 23-point victory. PJ Seiter led the Orange and Black with 14 points and was joined in double-digits by Brian and Brad Heitkamp with 12 and 11 points respectively. With the win, the Wildcats improved to 4-3 on the season.

10 Years Ago This Week – 2010

Ten years ago this week in 2011, New Bremen boys’ basketball head coach Mike Ernst earned the 100th victory of his head coaching career after his Cardinals took down the Minster Wildcats by a final of 52-28. The Cardinals jumped in front by ten points at the halftime break, 22-12, and out-scored the Orange and Black 14-10 later in the contest to enjoy their triumph. Minster was victorious in the junior varsity battle by a final of 45-31.
