No. 8 New Knoxville improves to 10-1

NEW KNOXVILLE — A 21- 4 first-quarter lead set the tone in New Knoxville’s 61-14 rout of Jackson Center on Tuesday in non-conference girls basketball action.

Five players scored in that first quarter for No. 8-ranked New Knoxville (10-1), led by Haley Fledderjoh­ann’s eight points and seven more from Avery Henschen.

The Rangers defense did the rest by limiting the Tigers to just nine first- half points and one single bucket in the third quarter.

Fledderjoh­ann led the Rangers with 13 points, followed by 12 points each from Henschen and Ellie Gabel. Rebecca Leffel scored seven points — five in the fourth quarter — while

Morgan Leffel and Melisa Waterman each contribute­d six points.

The New Knoxville junior varsity team came out with a 32-15 win.

The Rangers will host No. 2-ranked Minster on Thursday.

GIRLS JUNIOR HIGH BASKETBALL

ELIDA — The St. Marys Roughrider­s junior high girls basketball teams swept Elida on Tuesday.

The seventh-grade team came away with a 32-22 victory to improve to 7-2 on the season.

Madi Steger led the team in scoring with eight points from inside the paint and Sophie Menker connected for seven points.  Logan Henschen had five points while Ady Van De Keere had four points.  Bailey Greber and Ava Klosterman each had three points and Lauren Jacobs finished out the scoring with two points.

The eighth-grade team improved to 8-1 with a 33- 17 win.

Stella Wehner paced the Riders with 14 points

from inside the paint and Chloe Ott followed with eight points from inside the paint.

Reese Rable and Alexis Shadrach each scored three points. Kera Dorsten, Cadence Hirschfeld and Reghan Puthoff each scored two points and Leah Brackman rounded out the scoring with one point.

The Riders play the Fort Recovery Indians Thursday at home.

BOYS BASKETBALL MINSTER 46, RUSSIA 27

MINSTER — Second and third-quarter scoring led Minster to its fourth straight victory in a 46-27 against Russia in a non-conference boys basketball contest on Tuesday.

The Wildcats (9-3) outscored the Raiders 32-12 in the second and third quarters to break a two- point open by the time it reached the fourth quarter.

Bryan Falk led the way with 13 points and Brady Hoelscher followed with 10 points and four rebounds. Josh Niekamp contribute­d nine points and Justin Nixon finished with eight points and 11 rebounds.

The Wildcats junior varsity team fell 38-24. Minster will host New Knoxville on Friday.
