Riders bounce back against Coldwater
COLDWATER — The St. Marys Roughriders boys basketball team rebounded from their loss Friday to top-ranked Shawnee with a 60-43 nonleague victory against Coldwater.
St. Marys jumped out to a 23-4 first-quarter lead, powered by Austin Parks, who scored the game’s first eight points as the team opened the game with a 15-0 lead and enjoyed the largest lead of the game up 21-2 late in the quarter.
The Roughriders shot 24-of-49 (49%) from the floor and committed just five turnovers while forcing 13 on the Cavaliers.
Parks paced the Riders with a game-high 20 points, six rebounds and three assists. Jadin Davis followed with 13 points, three rebounds and three assists and Jace Turner added 10 points and six boards. LeTrey Williams contributed nine points. The St. Marys junior varsity team fell 57-51. The Roughriders will host Van Wert in a rescheduled boys basketball game on Tuesday at Memorial High School.

NEW BREMEN — The New Bremen Cardinals picked up their fourth consecutive win with a 60-46 non-conference win against Russia on Saturday in boys basketball action.
Saturday’s win came in large part because of the big secondhalf push by the Cardinals (8-4).
Tied at 18-18, New Bremen outscored Russia (5-9) 32-18 in the second half — beginning with a 7-0 run by the Cardinals on buckets by Nick Alig to break the 28-28 tie, Reece Busse and Mitchell Hays to lead 35-28. Russia’s Jordan Meyer’s layup pulled the game back to six but the Cardinals pulled away with a 7-3 run to lead 49-39 heading into the fourth quarter. A layup by Dan Homan and a 14-foot jumper by Busse pushed the Cardinals’ lead to 52-39 — their largest lead of the game.
Busse finished with a game-high 27 points while grabbing nine rebounds and recording three assists. Hays followed with 10 points and three boards and David Homan finished with eight points while Alig contributed six points.
New Bremen also won the junior varsity game 42-32.
The Cardinals will host Kalida on Tuesday.
