Cardinals upset No. 2 Kalida

NEW BREMEN — The New Bremen Cardinals boys basketball team used an 8-3 run to close out the game and upset No. 2-ranked Kalida 45-41 in non-conference action on Tuesday.

Kalida led 38-37 followed a free throw by Ayden Warnecke, but David Homan gave the Cardinals the lead for goof with a layup and Nick Alig followed with a bucket off a Brandon Miller turnover to push the lead to 41-38.

Two free throws by Nick Alig and a bucket by Alig culminated an 8-0 run by the Cardinals as they led 4538 with a could minutes left in the game.

Kalida pulled within four thanks to a 3-pointer by Luke Erhart but the Wildcats missed a desperatio­n 3-pointer late as the Cardinals came away with the win.

The victory on Tuesday marks New Bremen’s five straight since falling to St. Marys in the final seconds of a game on Jan. 5.

Homan paced the Cardinals with 14 points and four rebounds, followed by Reece Busse with nine points and seven boards. Alig added eight points and Dan Homan and Trevor Bergman each contribute­d six points.

The Cardinals will host Parkway on Friday. __

PERRY 42, MINSTER 40

PERRY TOWNSHIP — Perry outscored Minster 27-14 in the second half to upend the Wildcats 42-40 in non-conference boys basketball action on Tuesday.

The loss snaps a five-game win streak.

Three Wildcats (10-4) scored in double figures, led by Brady Hoelscher with 13 points, followed by Justin Nixon with 11 points, 10 rebounds and four blocks and Bryan Falk with 10 points and three rebounds.

Jefferey Simpson led the Commodores with 11 points, followed by Bubby Knight with 10 points.

The Minster junior varsity team won 46-42.
