Rupert leads state qualifiers
Minster, St. Marys boys relay teams; Wildcats individuals also heading to state

BOWLING GREEN — Freshman Ciera Rupert qualified for the Division II state meet while a couple of Minster boys individuals and a few boys relay teams will also compete in Canton later this week.
Rupert finished third at the district meet on Friday at Bowling Green State University and 19th overall in the state when she finished with a time of 1:08.06 in the 100-yard breaststroke. That time also broke a 15-year-old record set during the 2005-06 season by Jasmine Craft with a time
of 1:08.89.
A pair of Roughriders boys relay teams also qualified for state in the 200-yard freestyle with the quartet of Marcus McClain, Austin Hertenstein, Charlie Krebs and Xander Spees with a time of 1:31.59, finishing 21st overall in the state, and the quartet of Krebs, Spees, Reese Triplett and Griffin Luebke swam in the 200-yard medley with their 20th-place time of 1:40.95, breaking a school record time of 1:42.58 set in 2012-13.
Minster also had a few qualifiers, with the Wildcats’ body 200 free relay taking fourth overall in the state with their time of 1:28.60.
Individually, Ben Stammen advanced to state with a 19th-place time of 22.23 in the 50 free and Nicholas Clune finished with a time of 53.76 for 22nd place overall in the 100 fly.
The top two times in each district automatically advance to the state meet Wednesday and Thursday at the C.T. Branin Natatorium in Canton and the top 24 overall in the state qualify. Rupert will swim Wednesday and the boys competition will be Thursday.
Other St. Marys swimmers were close to qualifying for state, including the freshman Luebke, who placed 25th overall in the state with a time of 1:01.54 in the breaststroke and Spees in the backstroke with a 25th-place time of 55.47.
ST. MARYS BOYS BOWLING ADVANCES TO DISTRICTS
WAPAKONETA — The St. Marys Roughriders boys bowling team advanced to the Division I district tournament with a third-place finish on Saturday at Astro Lanes.
The Roughriders finished with 3,602 pins, behind Celina with 3,816 and sectional championship Wapakoneta with 3,894 pins.
Springfield placed fourth with 3,399 pins to qualify for district as the top four teams moved on to Port Clinton’s Star Lanes at the Harbor at 5 p.m. on Friday.
Jonathan Perez-Shinaberry led St. Marys with the seventh-highest series with a 560, followed by Cayden Ballweg with a 533 series and Junior Hurley with a 525 series.
Carter Monbeck rolled a 521 series and bowling two games was Jack Boos, who finished with a 330 series.
