NEW BREMEN — New Bremen village councilors had a few guests Monday night at it’s bi-weekly council meeting.

The Legacy Lego League team from New Bremen Schools presented an idea they feel would be a good addition to one of the parks in the village.

The group of nine, ranging from fourth grade through sixth grade, showed councilors a skit online that they created and showcased what their idea was.

Through their Lego competitions, members of the group have learned how to perform various programming and their idea is to place QR codes throughout a park in the village. When someone scans the codes with their phones, instructional videos of various exercise will be shown.

Currently, the group has seven exercise videos completed and ready to use which include: mountain climbers, sit ups, spinners, pushups, planks, wall squats and swimmers.

Councilor Jim Kronenberger said he liked

the idea and thinks it has potential to be used along the canal path or in one of the parks.

“I like the idea. I think it’s pretty neat. You could do it along the canal path, do it in any park. We could put it up on a tree when people are playing [frisbee] golf out there,” he said.

Councilor Don Kuck suggested that it could work in Jaycees Park specifically.

Kronenberger asked if the program could be modified to type in someone’s age and have it recommend exercises based off that, also asking if the videos could be updated every so often so that it’s not always the same ones.

Councilman Jacob Larger liked the idea, saying that it has potential to be used for years to come.

“I see it as a way to continue your legacy so future generations and future classes can update these,” he said.

Councilor Jessica Lomakin who is also the parks committee chair asked the group if they would be willing to teach her more about it at a parks meeting.

“I’d be happy to set up a meeting to hear more about it. It’s an interesting idea,” she said.
