New Bremen Local Band Gets I Rating at District Contest

The New Bremen Local Band under the direction of Mr. Lynn Schafer received an I rating in district contests on Saturday at the Shawnee High School. Their rating was impressive because of the possible 4 categories (3 judges and sight-reading). They received straight I’s in all categories. Comments from the judges included statements such as the following, “I really like this band. You play very musically and really dive in and get involved with your music,” stated Harry Pfingston, Avon Lake, Ohio. “This is a splendid group. All sections play with good tone, intonation and very expressively. I compliment the member and the teacher on their fine musicianship,” stated Charles Benner, Cincinnati, Ohio. “Tone quality good in reading as well as style,” stated L.E. Mari

ni, Sightreading Judge, Bowling Green State University.

Although the band realizes there is a great deal of hard work ahead, they are looking forward to going to state contest on April 24 in Clyde, Ohio. It is hoped that all students and patrons of the school district will support the band in their endeavors, so they can make a good showing at “state.”
