Basketball team holds season banquet Sunday

- By SKYLER MITCHELL Staff Writer

The St. Marys Memorial High School basketball team celebrated a great season Sunday at Varsity Lanes after winning a majority of their games this year.

Parents and coaches of the Roughriders were proud to celebrate the achievements of the local team after a successful season, despite a slow start for the team. This celebration culminated in a party at the local bowling alley, Varsity Lanes, where students and parents alike joined in.

Though there was some losses, though there were some were some significant wins that brought them over the top. Citing certain wins over in Wapakoneta and New Knoxville, they were able to carve out others despite certain overwhelming odds. The coaches espoused how proud they were to teach these kids and how their talent shined through.

Certain awards were given out during the proceedings, such as the athletic participation awards that were awarded to most members of the team. Some received some spe

cial attention for their participation, especially during certain games that couldn’t have been won without them. Each member of the team was greeted with a round of applause and given a certificate or trophy depending on their achievements.

There were some noted struggles in the beginning where the team wasn’t able to score a lot of points, but it traction did pick up as the season progressed. Though a couple of games were dropped either due to COVID or other reasons cited, most were played throughout.

Here’s to hoping that the following seasons are filled with as much celebration and future success.
