Gerhard “George” H. Bruns, 85, of Chickasaw, died Saturday, March 27, 2021 at State of the Heart Inpatient Unit at Wayne Hospital, Greenville. He was born Jan. 1, 1936 in Coldwater, to the late August and Agnes (Buening) Bruns. He married Rosemary Braun on Oct. 5, 1957 in Philothea, Ohio. She survives in Chickasaw. He is also survived by children: Carol and Dave Schwieterm­an, Wapakoneta, Rick “Buck” and Angie Bruns, Chickasaw and Cheryl and Dave Schaefer, St. Rose; nine grandchild­ren; 12 great-grandchild­ren; sisters: Dorothy Lehmkuhle, Lakeview and Helen and George Barhorst, Fort Loramie; sister-in-law Jan Bruns, Sidney; in-laws: Dorothy Sudhoff, Fort Recovery, Betty Meyer, Newport, Ruth Brunswick, Celina, Marlene and Romie Fullenkamp, Bryant, Indiana, Rich Highley, Celina and Karen and Paul Boeke, Cassella.

He was preceded in death by brothers and sisters: Walter and Dorothy Bruns, Wilbert and Thelma Bruns, Jim Lehmkuhle, Ralph and Alice Bruns, Mary and Carl Ranly, Delores and Jack Gaier, Leonard Bruns, Alvin Bruns and August Bruns, Jr. who died at birth.

He was a member of Precious Blood Catholic Church, Chickasaw and the Men’s Sodality of the Church. He was also a member of the Knights of St. John and past president. He was a former member of the Chickasaw Community Mutual Fire Company. He served in the U.S. Army from 1954 to 1956. He worked at the Minster Foundry and delivered Airstream trailers.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, March 31, at Precious Blood Catholic Church, Chickasaw. Burial with full military honors will follow at Precious Blood Cemetery, Chickasaw. Friends may call at the Hogenkamp Funeral Home, St. Henry from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Tuesday, March 30, and from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m. on Wednesday. Visitors are asked to follow CDC guidelines. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to the State of the Heart Hospice. Condolence­s may be left at HogenkampF­H.com.
