Roughrider­s blanked in first game

The St. Marys baseball team was shut out in its 2021 season opener on Saturday, as they lost 2-0 to visiting Indian Lake in a nonleague contest.

The Lakers scored one run in the first, then added one in the fourth.

The Roughrider­s were held to three hits on the day, getting one each by Adam Tobin, Dylan Trogdlon and Joey Caldwell.

Andrew Ibrahim pitched five innings and took the loss for St. Marys. Cole Koenig threw two innings in relief.

Ibrahim allowed both runs, while walking three and getting four strikeouts. Koenig allowed one hit and one walk, and struck out three.

St. Marys got the first two outs in the top of the first.

The next batter walked, and advanced to second and third on passed balls. Another wild pitch then allowed him to score. A strikeout by Ibrahim ended the inning there.

Trogdlon got a single with two outs in the bottom of the first, but was left aboard after a strikeout.

Indian Lake got a walk to start the fourth inning, which was followed by a single to center.

With runners on the corners, St. Marys was able to turn a 6-4-3 double play. The runner at third had to hold as well.

However, another single to the left side did allow him to score.

The frame then ended with a line out.

Tobin started off the Roughrider fourth with a single to left. He stole second and moved to

third on a groundout. But another grounder to third prevented him from scoring.

In the fifth, T. Kiehl started off with a walk for the Riders. The Lakers shut down that chance with two strikeouts and a flyout.

After being retired in order in the sixth, St. Marys came up for its last at-bat.

Caldwell singled to start the inning. After a flyout and strikeout, Caldwell moved into scoring position on a passed ball. Ibrahim then flew out to center, ending the game.

St. Marys (0-1) will travel to Parkway today for a nonleague game which is set to start at 5 p.m.
