Bowling Bash scheduled for Wapak

- By ALEX GUERRERO Staff Writer

According to Jackie Martell, director of the Wapakoneta Area Chamber of Commerce, the organization is getting ready for its annual Bowling Bash. The event will start at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday, April 10 at Astro Lanes and is only open to chamber members.

Martell said she’s never had problems filling the event in the past.

“It is a fun event that meets our objective to provide social environments for our members to network and enjoy themselves,” Martell said. “One of the benefits of being a member… is your opportunity to come together for fun activities that also build lasting relationships in our business community.”

In four two-person teams, participants will participate in Scotch Doubles to win door prizes.

She had a particular reason for Scotch Doubles: it requires teams to work together for scores.

“It’s things like picking up each other’s spares and doing unique challenges that make the event unusual and fun,” she said.

Prizes, provided by sponsoring organizations, vary yearly depending on whose sponsoring.

“The members enjoy… either competing for them or purchasing raffle tickets to have a chance to win the prizes,” she said.

There will also be food, beverages and a DJ.

“We’re grateful for [Astro Lanes] partnership so that we can provide a networking event that is always enjoyed by our chamber members,” she said.

The event is designed to market and support other chamber businesses

Martell said COVID-19 restrictions have limited the number of members who can participate, and all Ohio health guidelines will be followed.

Martell wasn’t able to provide a number for how may teams have signed up, but said she’s previously managed to fill all 16 lanes.

Currently, there are openings left, though Martell did say the event was almost full.
