Roughrider­s collect win on tennis court

WAPAKONETA -- St. Marys defeated Wapakoneta 4-1 in boys tennis on Tuesday at the WHS courts.

Joey Vanderhors­t of St. Marys defeated Bryce Cousino of Wapakoenta 6-1, 6-2 in singles.

Connor Coffey of Wapakoneta defeated Rhett Chisholm 6-4, 6-4 in singles.

In doubles play, St. Marys’ Connor Milner and Isaac Wibbeler defeated Nathan Doll and Angel Coca of Wapakoneta, 6-1, 6-0.

St. Marys won the other two matches by default. They will host Bath in a match on Thursday.

In other scholastic action Tuesday:

BASEBALL New Bremen 4, St. Henry 3

NEW BREMEN -New Bremen defeated St. Henry in Midwest Athletic Conference baseball play.

St. Henry scored a run in the first and two in the third, but the Cardinals countered with one in the second and three in the third, then held on for the win.

Mitchell Hays went the distance for New Bremen, allowing five hits and four walks. He recorded 13 strikeouts.

The Cardinals won despite having just one hit on the day, that coming from Nick Alig. They also drew 10 walks.

After the Redskins scored a run in the first on a pair of singles, New Bremen got on the board in the second. Kyle Tenkman and Colton Muether both walked, then advanced on steals. A wild pitch allowed Tenkman to score and tie the game.

St. Henry a walk, single, and passed ball to score twice in the top of the third.

New Bremen filled the bases to start the bottom half with a walk to Wyatt Dicke, a bunt single by Alig and a walk to Hays. An error then allowed Dicke to score and kept the bases full.

After a strikeout, a balk by the St. Henry pitcher meant Alig scored. Tenkman then put down a sacrifice to bring home Hays and put the Cards in front.

Hays did not allow a runner in the fourth or fifth. In the sixth, St. Henry got a single and error with one out, but

Hays got the next two looking to keep the lead.

In their final at-bat, the Redskins got two walks with two outs before a swing and miss ended it.

SOFTBALL New Bremen 11, St. Henry 0

ST. HENRY -- New Bremen shut out host St. Henry 11-0 in six innings in a MAC contest.

Alayna Ross threw all six innings to get the win, allowing just one hit and no walks. She struck out 10.

Allison Hays, Emma Krieg and Madi Lozier all had home runs, and Ella Pape hit a double as part of the Cardinals’ 11hit attack.

Pape had three hits on the day, and Lozier and Emma Keller each had two.

New Bremen scored two in the second. With two outs, Hays walked, Ross was hit by a pitch, and Keller singled to load the bases. Pape then singled to center, scoring Hays and Lily Rindler (who was put in to run for Ross).

Krieg hit a solo home run to lead off the third and make it 3-0.

The big inning for New Bremen was the fifth. Krieg reached on an error and Lozier singled. St. Henry then forced out Krieg at third. A walk to Wells loaded the bases.

After a popup, hits by Ross scored two runs, one by Keller brought in one, and Ross scored on a wild pitch pushing it to 8-0.

In the sixth, Krieg reached on an error, then Lozier hit one over the fence. St. Henry got two outs, but Hays blasted one to center for the final run of the day.

The game ended after St. Henry failed to score in the bottom of the sixth.

Minster 7, Anna 4 ANNA -- Minster defeated Anna in non league play in which both teams had doubledigi­t hits.

Minster led 5-3 after two innings. They scored two in the fourth, and held Anna to just one more run, that coming in the seventh.

Rachael Hoying pitched to get the win, allowing 10 hits and two walks. She struck out nine.

Savanah Bergman had three hits, with Lyndi Hemmelgarn, Kaycie Albers and Lilly Barhorst having two each.

Three hits led to two runs for Minster in its first at-bat. Anna responded with two runs of its own.

In the top of the second, Albers singled, took second on a wild pitch, then scored on a triple by Barhorst. A double by Bergman and a single by Hemmelgarn followed, with runs scoring on each to make it 5-2.

Anna did get one run back in the bottom half.

In the fourth, an error and hits by Bergman and Hemmelgarn produced a run. Bergman scored on another error to make it 7-3.

In the seventh, Anna loaded the bases on a two hits and an error. Another miscue then allowed a run to score. Hoying then bore down and got two strikeouts to end the game.
