FFA holding purse bingo this weekend

The St. Marys chapter of the FFA is hosting a Designer Purse Bingo this Saturday at the St. Marys Eagles 767.

The local FFA chapter is holding this event at 6 p.m. at 404 E. Spring St. People that participate in the event will have 12 chances to win a designer bag, each one going the first winner of every game. The doors will open at about 5 p.m. for anyone that arrives early.

What makes this purse bingo so special is that it was done through the efforts of chapter member Bailey Snyder. This event was an idea of hers that she was finally able to implement after about a year of planning. She describes the event as something she hopes will bring people together after a long time of being stuck at home or being forced apart.

“It’s just something fun that a lot of ladies, older, younger, to play bingo and win designer purses,” Snyder said when discussing the event. She also mentioned that people are able to win baskets or other prizes depending on what else they do at the event.

The original plan was to help pay off school lunches, back when COVID was just beginning to spread across the states. However, due to recent legislation, Snyder changed tactics and decided to give the money to the teachers of SMCS for

them to buy equipment for their classrooms and similar ventures.

She decided on the purse bingo idea because of her mother, who did something similar a while back. Snyder figures that something like this would bring the community together, even if its only an excuse to get out of the house.

“I’m happy with how many tickets I’ve already sold, happy to let everyone be able to finally come out and do something for the community,” she said when asked about how she felt about her progress. She hopes to continue doing similar projects in the future for similar reasoning.

Snyder said she joined the FFA because of her cousins, who are also involved with the organization. She joined in order to help improve her speaking skills and networking skills, something which she says was a big success. The people she’s worked with have taught her how actively be a member in her community and talk to others how she wanted to talk to them.

While this is the first time she is in charge of an event, she thinks that she is doing something good for her home. She hopes that this will turn out well and that it will start helping people realize things are getting better.

The event is being limited to about 225 tickets and many have been sold already. A ticket bought before the event costs $30 and can be bought by emailing Lucy.bambauer@smriders. net or bought at the door during the event for $35.
