10 Years Ago (2011)

New Bremen boys’ basketball coach Adam Dougherty picked up his first win as the Cardinals’ head coach following a 76-47 blowout over the Allen East Mustangs. The first half was tight, as New Bremen trailed 18-16 at the end of the first quarter and led by just two points, 31-29, at the halftime break. From there, it was all New Bremen though as they outscored the Mustangs 22-6 in the third stanza and 25-12 in the final eight minutes. Aaron Clune finished the evening with 15 points in the victory, while teammate Derek Bornhorst added ten points in the winning effort.

25 Years Ago (1996)

The Minster Wildcats and New Bremen Cardinals met on the gridiron for their annual week-10 battle, with the Wildcats coming out on top by a final of 27-10 and punching their ticket to the Division VI postseason in the process. The Cardinals got the scoring underway in the first quarter with a two-yard touchdown run by Aaron Schmitmeye­r. Minster responded with a touchdown run by Adam Clune in the second quarter, but the Cardinals enjoyed a 10-7 edge at intermissi­on following a 27-yard field goal from Schmitmeye­r with 25 seconds left in the second period. From there, it was all Minster as Brian Homan, Brad Ranly, and Dave Bergman each ran for touchdowns in the second half to secure the 17-point victory.

50 Years Ago (1971)

Minster gridiron standout, Brad Hausfeld, earned high recognitio­n for his recently-completed football season after being named to the UPI All-Ohio squad. As a defensive back, Hausfeld intercepte­d 11 passes during the 1971 campaign, while also leading the Wildcats in tackles. Along with the UPI All-State honors, he was also named to the Associated Press All-Ohio team as an honorable mention selection and also picked up first team All-District accolades as well as All-Greater Dayton area and first team All-League in the TriCounty League.
