First day of regional track held at Troy

TROY — The Division III Northest regional meet held its first day of action on Wednesday, with finals in some field events and the 4x800 meter relays for the boys and girls.

In the boys’ race, Fort Loramie (8:11.95); Minster (8:16.94); Emmanuel Christian (8:17.82) and Botkins (8:18.20) earned the four spots for the state tournament next weekend.

Marion Local (8:19.86) and New Bremen (8:24.24) were sixth and seventh out of the 16 teams.

Preliminar­ies were held in the boys and girls 100 meter dash, the 100/110m hurdles, and the 4x200m relays before thundersto­rms washed out the rest of the evening’s program.

——— BOYS FIELD

Gavin Kemper of Fort Loramie took first place in pole vault, clearing 15 feet, 9 inches. Jackson

Shelhaas of Ansonia was second (15-0). Also qualifying were junior Nate Buscher of Marion Local (14-4) and senior Russell Heid of Minster (13-0).

Others competing were Carter Jones, Marion Local (6th, 126); Luke Holthaus, Fort Loramie (7th, 12-6); and Lucas Stammen, Minster (9th, 11-0).

In the discus, sophomore Jack Knapke of Marion Local claimed first place with a throw of 158 feet, 10 inches. Joining him at state will be Michael McFarland, Lehman Catholic (158-2); Jesse Meyer, Coldwater (144-8); and Chase Werling, Arcanum (140-6).

Minster’s Charlie Schmiesing was sixth (138-9).

In long jump, state qualifiers were Caden Slusher, Parkway (20-7 1/4); Justyn Fuller, Williamsbu­rg (20-7 1/4); Justin Richards, Anna (20-6 1/2); and Evan

Unruh, Lima CC (20-5 1/2).

GIRLS FIELD

Mallory Mullen of Springfiel­d Catholic Central won the high jump (5-7), with other qualifiers Daria Lee of Lehman Catholic (5-4), Ashley Bertke, Anna (53) and Riley Heitkamp of Fort Loramie (5-2).

Sophomore Kayla Lamm of Minster finished sixth (5-2).

Marion Local senior Molly Winner won the shot put with a throw of 41 feet, 6 1/2 inches. Also heading to state are Whitley Rammel, Fort Recovery (39-10); Lilly Barhorst, Minster (394) and Aleah Johnson of Botkins (38-4 3/4).

Others competing were Marion Local’s Amber Wendel (12th, 32-4 1/4) and Fort Loramie’s Julian Gaier (14th, 31-8 1/4).

The rest of the competitio­n will be held this evening starting at 5 p.m.
