Memorial Day parade informatio­n

The 2022 Memorial Day Parade put on by the St. Marys American Legion will begin at 10 a.m. on Monday, with groups gathering at the parking lot of the St. Marys Community Public Library.

At 10:30 a.m., the Memorial High School Band will perform under the direction of Riley Robey.

Order of events: Invocation by the Post chaplain; welcome address by Post 323 Commander Justin Arnold; a speech; a patriotic tribute will be performed by the band; a speech; Rev. Robert Warren will speak; a patriotic tribute will be performed by the band; student tribute; an American Legion tribute by Arnold; the band will perform “The StarSpangl­ed Banner”; a tribute to the Honored Dead (wreath) by Post service officers; a salute to the Honored Dead by the VFW Post 9289 Firing Squad; a performanc­e of “Taps” and 30 seconds of silence; benedictio­n by the Post chaplain and closing remarks from Arnold.

Those participat­ing in the parade include: the St. Marys Police Department, Auglaize County Sheriff, the Ohio State Highway Patrol, the American Legion Post Color Guard, the VFW Post 9289 Color Guard and the Auxiliary Color Guard, a horse-drawn hearse by Miller Funeral Home, the American Legion Post 323 Commander, the VFW Post 9289 Commander, the VFW Aux. President, American Legion Post Chaplain, American Legion Post Aux. President, Memorial Day guest speaker, student Memorial Day speakers, Mayor Patrick McGowan and city council members, youth sports teams, the St. Marys Memorial High School Band, Boy Scouts and Cub Scouts, Holy Rosary School, Girl Scouts and Brownies, St. Marys school athletics and other competitor­s, American Legion Post riders, the veterans’ trailer, the National Guard unit, the St. Marys and St. Marys Township fire department­s and the St. Marys Police Department.

In case of inclement weather, the memorial ceremony will be held at the St. Marys American Legion Post.
