FCA hosting all-abilities sports camp in Coldwater

-

COLDWATER — District 8 Fellowship of Christian Athletes (FCA) will be hosting its first FCA All-Abilities Sports Camp this summer. This twoday camp will be from 5:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. on Friday, July 8 — with check-in opening at 4:30 p.m. — and from 9 a.m. to noon on Saturday, July 9 — check-in opens at 8:30 a.m. — at Coldwater High School stadium. There will also be an awards banquet Saturday after camp from 12:30 p.m. until 2 p.m.

This FREE camp is designed for all-abilities individuals from 5 years old to 35 years old! Each camper will be paired with a buddy for the duration of camp, who will join in the activities as well as assist and encourage the camper.

We are looking for volunteers to be a buddy, to assist with set up and tear down of camp activities and the banquet, and to help with the various activities as well as a few pre-camp roles.

FCA wants to ensure we are serving coaches and athletes within the disability community. The camp will include activities such as football, soccer, baseball/softball, physical fitness, a ninja warrior obstacle course and more! Camp will also feature a daily spiritual theme or lesson that will be taught and applied at camp. Further, campers will be taught how to work together as a team, and how to deal with victories and challenges that are often presented in sports and life.

The overall goals of camp are to: Celebrate people of all abilities; provide athletes of all abilities with an opportunity to safely and freely explore and display their unique personality and skills; educate and inform parents of the various opportunities for your child in our area and possibly form sports leagues in our area for individuals with special needs.

Registration for campers and volunteers opened on May 27 on the District 8’s website at District8FCA.org under the “Events->Camp” tab.
