Virginia Kantner, 89

-

We are saddened to announce the passing of our dear mother, Virginia A. (Ginny) Kantner at 89 years old. Our sweet Mother passed away peacefully on Sunday, Jan. 8, 2023 at Vancrest Nursing Home in St. Mary’s, surrounded by her five children.

Our Mother was one of the most courageous, strong, and kindest people on this earth. She would have done anything for her family or friends. We were blessed to have her as matriarch of our family.

Mom was born on Oct. 3, 1933 to Ralph and Edna Zurcher in Lima Ohio. Mom and Dad (Ronald Kantner) met in Toledo and were married on April 4, 1959. Our family began with the birth of the eldest daughter on Jan. 20, 1961 and were soon followed by our other siblings.

The five children are Sandy Gerdeman (Rick), Steve Kantner (Krista), Shari Jeffries- Straley, Scott Kantner, and Shelley Gillis. Mom was also blessed to have 15 wonderful grandkids, and many great grandkids.

Mom went to secretarial school after high school, but spent the biggest part of her life working at Pantry Pride/ Big Bear in St. Marys. Mom also worked part time for many years at Northmoor Golf Course, Varsity Lanes, and the local VFW. It was through these businesses that she developed many life-long friends and co-workers, who loved her energy, work ethic, and contagious smile.

Mother was proceeded in death by her two parents, and her husband, Ronald.

In lieu of flowers, the family is asking for donations to be made to Anything is Pawsable Inc., a 501 © (3)organization that breeds, raises, feeds, vets and trains working dogs that are donated free- of- charge to individuals or programs in need that cannot afford the cost of a service animal. Donations can be made at AnythingIsPawsable.org/donate-today

The family will hold a private burial at a later date.
